Private Residential:

Complete

Le Petit Champeaux is a contemporary three bedroom home in the countryside in St Clement Jersey. The surrounding area is characterised by agricultural land, farm buildings and small clusters of private housing.

A simple palette of granite, white render, glass, timber and metal have been proposed for the building’s facades and the scheme is characterised by a traditionally  constructed granite wall  from which emerge a series of visually lightweight, occupied spaces. A section of the wall rises perpendicular to the main building wing to act as an end stop. A series of cast glass horizontal slots have been incorporated within the wall to add detail and complexity and to animate the façade both inside and out.

A continuous series of glass roof lights provide a transparent, linear strip to separate the granite wall and the occupied spaces within. The roof glazing also provides natural light to the circulation spaces at first floor level.

A small ‘garden pavilion' housing the main living space and occasional guest accommodation above is located perpendicular to the main wing of the house.  A frameless glass enclosure links the pavilion to the main building to reinforce the distinct nature of both elements.

A series of solar panels are located at the optimum angle and orientation on the roof of the living room pavilion to enable the building to benefit from the practical integration of renewable energy systems.  This project is due for completion in December 2010.
