PKM Railway Stations Competition

Published: Oct 2011

Axis Mason have been awarded second prize in the International Architectural Competition for the design of PKM Railway Stations in GdaƄsk.

This prestigious design competition encompassed the refurbishment of existing Kokoszki Railway and the development of a new line connecting the Tri-City to the newly constructed Airport. Axis Mason placed second out of the original field of 46 invited teams.

The competition jury made the following comments (Translated from the original Polish);

“The practice received the prize for proposing a modern form of canopies to the platforms in the form of tubes, a clear and expressive, but not invasive landscape, creating a recognizable sign of PKM - common to all the stops - and meeting the expectations of the investor.

The adopted modular design solution ensures ease of adaptation to the curriculum requirements of the project (size of the different stops) and the possibility of future expansion.

The accurate and reasonable use of adopted forms of interaction, materials, textures and colours creates spaces with high aesthetic value.”
