Project Description

Name – Le Petite Lumieres
Client – Confidential
Location – St. Brelade, Jersey

The design of this contemporary guest house takes full advantage of dramatic sweeping views to the south across the meadow garden to the sea. The entire south facing wall and part of the west wall at ground and first floor are fully glazed and a frameless glass balcony runs the entire length of the elevation at first floor.

The privacy of the neighbouring property to the north was a concern and the first floor elevation is therefore expressed as a simple white rendered façade set in front of a continuous glazed rooflight and floating above the glazed entrance screen at ground floor. The entrance is defined externally by a simple concrete canopy with large elliptical glazed roof lights.

The simple elegance of the design with its floating, cantilevered upper floor, corner windows, frameless glass balconies and smooth white walls responds to the crisp 1930’s aesthetic of the main house, together creating an elegant modern ensemble set within an manicured landscape, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
