The Axis Mason team in Glasgow have submitted a planning application for a development on a unique gap site within the Blythswood district of Glasgow. Located a stone’s throw away from the Axis Mason studio, the team and an ambitious client have created a design that generates 6 two-bedroom apartments over 7 storeys.
The primary material for the Blythswood Street elevation is stone cladding. Taking influence from traditional architecture, slim frame windows are set within layered deep reveals to create depth and play with light and shadow on the elevation. The ground floor stone cladding will be enhanced with expressed coursing joints and a granite skirting detail at the base. Strong horizontal cornice lines and stone detailing at the second and top floors define datums and facade proportions related to adjacent properties. A further layer of enrichment on the primary facade is expressed through the architectural metalwork which takes reference from the metal railings around Blythswood Square. The lane elevation will be clad in brickwork to compliment the colours and tones of the stone cladding with recessed brick detailing, projecting windows along the lane also offer oblique views to the street and animate the facade.
