EXETER CARE HOME, A MODERN SUSTAINABLE NEW DEVELOPMENT

Located less than 2 minutes’ walk from the river Exe and 15 minutes from the City Centre, the site for Exeter Care Home is situated to the west of a larger redevelopment scheme to include housing and later living residence.

The facades of the building are predominantly brick in line with properties in the surrounding area. The building is constructed with a Sigmat light gauge steel frame and incorporates a sedum roof atop the full extent of the building, which in turn will improve thermal performance, reduce the stormwater runoff rate, and increase biodiversity.

This 3-storey development will provide 68 bedrooms alongside shared communal facilities, including a library, cinema room, salon and multiple quiet lounges, providing opportunities for interaction between residents whilst also offering a range of private spaces. The use of natural daylight to rooms within has been optimised in order to reduce the dependency on artificial lighting. Visual connections to the outside have been prioritised throughout the scheme, which has been designed to facilitate easy access for residents to the landscaped area to the south of the site.

Work is progressing rapidly; the building is now watertight, and we are on target for completion in Summer 2023.
