It still seems like yesterday that I packed my bags and headed off to join a small practice on a tiny Island in the English Channel - almost 20 years later and our team has grown to become 5 studios, working together and delivering projects across the UK, Europe and Africa. It feels like success and success is a great motivator; what motivates me more though is helping other people to succeed; our clients, the people we make places for and more importantly, the amazing team we have at Axis Mason. When I’m not thinking about building stuff for other people, you’ll find me building my very own low-tech, micro-city on a campsite somewhere or panicking at the top of mountain when I realise my ski technique looks much better in my head!

I have been with Axis Mason in Jersey since 2004 and love working on the wide variety of project types we undertake. When not working, I spent the majority of my time playing with Lego “with my son”. Something you may not know about me? I scored from the hallway line in the Paisley and District under 18s cup final (1991) – still the single greatest achievement of my life to date.

I have been part of the Axis Mason team in our London studio for over 17 years. It has been a greatly rewarding journey to help develop and nurture the business into a family of international studios that seek to enrich people’s lives through design. A constantly evolving group of people and projects keep each year challenging and rewarding. When not working I love to run the Oxfordshire trails with my dog Chester and enjoy a pub lunch with family.

As I near the end of my second decade at Axis Mason my ambition, being part of a young dynamic leadership team, is to make a significant contribution towards cultivating a happy & healthy workplace by strengthening our unified goal of enriching people’s lives through the work we do. Among other things, I believe that a good work-life balance is a key ingredient to happiness, and addressing core values like these in the workplace can empower us as a company. When I’m not working you can quite often find me in my surfski 2km offshore in windy conditions chasing ocean swell; a special place where a real appreciation of perspective is embraced.

I moved from our London studio to Jersey in 2005 for a slower pace of life. It hasn’t worked out like that as the interior team has grown from strength to strength! When not at work I enjoy socialising, walking on some of Jersey’s fine beaches with my two dogs Hamish & Skye and also the odd glass (or two) of red wine!

I am the Practice Manager based in London, but travel to all of our other Studios. I have been at Axis Mason for just over two years now and enjoy working with all of the fantastic characters that we are fortunate enough to have in our team. When I am not at work you will find me walking on the beach near my house, with my two Dobermans Chas & Dave.

In 2009, after 4 years working at our Jersey Studio, I travelled back to Poland to open our studio in Gdansk. I love to design but to also be on site to see how our buildings grow. Apart from architecture I am very interested in urban design and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to work with students at Gdańsk University of Technology. Outside of work, I enjoy active leisure time, food, and spending time with friends and my family.

I enjoy the sense of team across our studios, and it’s exciting to see how we will continue to evolve in the coming years. Outside work, you can often find me in old jeans with a tool-belt around my waist putting the finishing touches to the long-time refurbishment of my home. I now enjoy spending more of my newfound spare time relaxing with my wife and two kids, either outdoors or chilling in our new space. When I’m not out running or cycling, I enjoy reading about the latest tech-innovation, either architectural or the latest cycling gear. Coming from Dutch roots, one of my (pipe)dreams, is to introduce some speed skating prowess to the UK by championing an idea for the first 400m long track speed skating rink in the UK, ideally near Glasgow.

I remember a conversation with one of my friends at school over 30 years ago about our respective aspirational careers, his first choice was to be an architect and second, an airline pilot, mine was the other way around. He’s now a pilot for British Airways and I’m an Architect!! Very pleased it turned out like that after 29 years and counting in the architectural profession. Outside of work I’m at my happiest either on or near water, preferably any sea, but also enjoy clocking up the miles on the bike or on foot with Chas & Dave (our two Doberman’s) - convenient that they also enjoy spending time relaxing in the pub(s)!!

Ever the optimist, I look forward to a challenge and generally am always presented with one! Problems are only an opportunity in my book. Having worked on all types of buildings, I am not often phased and always happy to help a client move their project forward. When not working I am generally with family or out cycling laps of the island.

I joined Axis Mason in 2014 as one of the originating members of the Glasgow team. Participating in projects across the AM studios, I enjoy engaging in challenging opportunities that result in a creative design response. I believe design is at the heart of everything we do, it should be explored, encouraged and nurtured to ensure the best possible solution is applied to all of our projects. Outside of work I like to spend as much time as I can with my family and can regularly be found standing on the touchline pretending to be Jürgen Klopp as I coach my sons football team.

All about the architecture of landscape. Cities, towns, streets, squares, parks, roofs, gardens… a bench: Each dramatic in affecting our relationship with nature and each other! Setting and site are arguably the most important element of any design project and my job is about respecting, protecting and enriching their future. If I’m not in the studio working hard toward a greener construction industry (Axis Mason specified of over 500 trees this year) you’ll likely find me brewing beer for one of Jersey’s latest start-up businesses, Bliss Brew Co!

It’s all in the detail. I love that part of architecture as well as being on site, and always have, ever since I was hand digging underpinned basement foundations or cleaning 100’s of reclaimed bricks before I started university. I have been with Axis Mason for 15 years because it’s a great team and I find it interesting, challenging and at times really, really hard work. But hey, that’s architecture for you! Fun Fact: I help plan and run a volunteer, not for profit 3-day local festival.

So far, no two weeks have been the same, I’ve done and learnt a lot. My biggest challenge has been QA, Carbon Smart, and AMDO… Along with getting Lejla and Jenny to use the app!). After finishing my media production college course this summer, it left me with an open mind for a creative workplace. Axis Mason was perfect for me! From a young age, I’ve always been intrigued by architecture. I’ve been learning so much here and hope to develop my architectural knowledge. On the weekends I’m always out and about either with my friends, running, or capturing Jersey with my camera.

I have a pragmatic and all inclusive approach to design, with an eye for detail. Outside of work I’m at my happiest when I’m outside, lost in the country / up a hill somewhere with my dog, at the gym, or just winding down with friends & family.

Vesna Carnegie
I am Vesna and I have been with Axis Mason Jersey Studio for four years. When I was very little, I wanted to be a doctor (but was quickly discouraged by the sight of medical books). I knew I wanted to be architect from the age of 10 - inspired by my aunty who was an architectural technician. A perfectionist like myself could not have chosen better, I enjoy it immensely. In my down time I love sitting by the beach with a favourite book and coffee.

I joined the Axis Mason team in the summer of 2019 following my Part 2 studies at the University of Portsmouth. To me the most enjoyable aspect of working in architecture is solving design solutions in a creative way which fulfils the needs of all involved – an aspect I am looking forward to applying at Axis Mason! In my spare time I can be found taking a dip in the nearest swimming pool or (when not in London) the sea.

I came to Jersey in 2004 so I have committed the majority of my career to designing buildings on the island at all stages, from feasibility to completion, across a broad range of sectors. My aim is to do the best job I can for the client, user and wider environment which often requires a lot of very hard work and determination to make a project a success. Not much will distract me from the task at hand! Local sport, music, travel and DIY fills my spare time.

I joined Axis Mason in 2012 after graduating from Gdańsk University of Technology. Thing I most enjoyed from that time is the variety of the project scales - from small village cottages to huge hotel resorts.
