Managing Director
My name isn’t actually Ian! Don’t ask…..it’s a Scottish thing! In my role as MD, I get to sprinkle some stardust occasionally but mainly, it’s just about learning how to lead better. Positive, optimistic people who want to succeed no matter where they’re starting from inspire me the most. When I’m not doing this, I’m cheat cycling on my e-bike, over-complicating my next diy project or just reading a good book.

I have been with Axis Mason in Jersey since 2004 and love working on the wide variety of project types we undertake. When not working, I spent the majority of my time playing with Lego “with my son”. Something you may not know about me? I scored from the hallway line in the Paisley and District under 18s cup final (1991) – still the single greatest achievement of my life to date.

I have been part of the Axis Mason team in our London studio for over 17 years. It has been a greatly rewarding journey to help develop and nurture the business into a family of international studios that seek to enrich people’s lives through design. A constantly evolving group of people and projects keep each year challenging and rewarding. When not working I love to run the Oxfordshire trails with my dog Chester and enjoy a pub lunch with family.

As I near the end of my second decade at Axis Mason my ambition, being part of a young dynamic leadership team, is to make a significant contribution towards cultivating a happy & healthy workplace by strengthening our unified goal of enriching people’s lives through the work we do. Among other things, I believe that a good work-life balance is a key ingredient to happiness, and addressing core values like these in the workplace can empower us as a company. When I’m not working you can quite often find me in my surfski 2km offshore in windy conditions chasing ocean swell; a special place where a real appreciation of perspective is embraced.

I moved from our London studio to Jersey in 2005 for a slower pace of life. It hasn’t worked out like that as the interior team has grown from strength to strength! When not at work I enjoy socialising, walking on some of Jersey’s fine beaches with my two dogs Hamish & Skye and also the odd glass (or two) of red wine!

I have a diverse role at Axis Mason, looking after various aspects of the business. It’s a very fulfilling role and I most enjoy the people & culture aspect of our business and I am fortunate to be in touch with all of fantastic team across all 5 Studio’s. When I am not working, you will find me on the beach walking my two Dobermans Chas and Dave or coming up with ridiculous interior designs for our house. If I could be in any place at any period of time I would be on a 1940’s film set, starring alongside Cary Grant in a fabulous 1940’s outfit. Something that might surprise you about me is that I have about 150 pairs of shoes!

In 2009, after 4 years working at our Jersey Studio, I travelled back to Poland to open our studio in Gdansk. I love to design and to also be on site to see how our buildings grow. Apart from architecture I am very interested in urban design and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to work with students at Gdańsk University of Technology. Outside of work, I enjoy active leisure time, food, and spending time with friends and my family.

I enjoy the sense of team across our studios, and it’s exciting to see how we will continue to evolve in the coming years. Outside work, you can often find me in old jeans with a tool-belt around my waist putting the finishing touches to the long-time refurbishment of my home. I now enjoy spending more of my newfound spare time relaxing with my wife and two kids, either outdoors or chilling in our new space. When I’m not out running or cycling, I enjoy reading about the latest tech-innovation, either architectural or the latest cycling gear. Coming from Dutch roots, one of my (pipe)dreams, is to introduce some speed skating prowess to the UK by championing an idea for the first 400m long track speed skating rink in the UK, ideally near Glasgow.

My father, who is a retired Architect, actively discouraged me from following in his footsteps, which I found rather confusing at the age of 16. I think he thought there were other professions that might be more financially lucrative! Anyway, I’m glad I ignored him because I can’t think of many things I would rather be doing, as there’s nothing quite like building new stuff for people, as well as looking after buildings that exist already, and I’m still saying that 31 years in! I’m from Norwich originally and therefore ‘enjoy’ the pain of supporting Norwich City Football Club. When I’m not doing that, you’re most likely to find me in the sea or on a beach with Jenny and the dogs, or occasionally on the water when anyone that’s lucky enough to own a yacht invites me to go sailing! If I could be in any place at any time, I’d be like Doctor Who, or even Marty McFly. I think either would be pretty fun. Carpe Diem (but also good to look forward)

I joined Axis Mason in 2014 as one of the originating members of the Glasgow team. Participating in projects across the AM studios, I enjoy engaging in challenging opportunities that result in a creative design response. I believe design is at the heart of everything we do, it should be explored, encouraged and nurtured to ensure the best possible solution is applied to all of our projects. Outside of work I like to spend as much time as I can with my family and can regularly be found standing on the touchline pretending to be Jürgen Klopp as I coach my sons football team.

All about the architecture of landscape. Cities, towns, streets, squares, parks, roofs, gardens… a bench: Each dramatic in affecting our relationship with nature and each other! Setting and site are arguably the most important element of any design project and my job is about respecting, protecting and enriching their future. If I’m not in the studio working hard toward a greener construction industry (Axis Mason specified of over 500 trees this year) you’ll likely find me brewing beer for one of Jersey’s latest start-up businesses, Bliss Brew Co!

As an architect, I believe that we have a responsibility to design and implement a more socially accountable environment. As a designer, I see design as a tool to bring people together. As an individual, I’m most myself when I’m not too far from the sea or attempting to climb a mountain. Aside from architecture, one of my personal pleasures is walking. I feel most alive experiencing a city on foot, learning from people that breathe life into the spaces we create. Axis Mason has presented me with the opportunity of tackling architecture on a global front. I am most driven by the wide variety of design challenges we are faced with and the dynamic team I am fortunate enough to work with. In turn I hope to diversify my skillset in order to better equip me in addressing spatial interventions in the future.

I enjoy having the opportunity to learn from being exposed to the variety of building projects Axis Mason tackles. I get to try a little bit of many projects and it has, and will continue to, push my understanding of buildings, space and people. The opportunity to create something for people, with which they interact so entirely- it's a huge responsibility and a great source of inspiration. In my spare time I'm usually working on my side hustle, hiking around Durban or skating along the beachfront. If I could be in any place and in any period of time it would definitely be sometime in the future! I've always been curios about what the futuristic East Africa would look like.

After my studies I moved to the South African coast where I joined the Axis Mason Durban studio. I am proud to be part of a diverse, global team that never backs down from a challenge and strives to enhance the lived spaces that we find ourselves in - all while having some fun along the way. The best part about my role is that I am in an environment where I get to learn something new each day - and also teach others a thing or two every so often! I spend my free time making things out of wood, playing golf, sketching, reading and watching Formula 1.

Howsit. Surprisingly, my blood is red... kimmon you gunners! Meaning I’m a bit of a sports enthusiast and enjoy watching when I can. I’m otherwise kept busy jolling with my beautiful family, beaching, riding, walking, seeing – fully doing & loving life with them. In my ’me’ time, I like to smash a ball around a squash court (and of course a few coldies after). The possibility of creating spaces to enrich a human’s experience through architecture inspires me and I am excited to be part of the Axis Mason team that allow these opportunities to manifest.

I am Vesna and I have been with Axis Mason Jersey Studio for four years. When I was very little, I wanted to be a doctor (but was quickly discouraged by the sight of medical books). I knew I wanted to be architect from the age of 10 - inspired by my aunty who was an architectural technician. A perfectionist like myself could not have chosen better, I enjoy it immensely. In my down time I love sitting by the beach with a favourite book and coffee.

Something other might not know about me is that my grandma had 7 kids.. so I have 18 cousins only from my father side and 3 brothers and sisters! Spanish families are huge! What I really enjoy about my role is the fact that we face new challenges everyday and the feeling that we solve them by the end of every day. My biggest inspiration is to work on something that will last in time and people have the possibility to see and live with it. I’m very passionate about football and I enjoy watching matches with a cold beer. When I have more time, I like visiting new places around England. I am very curious about the future. So if I would be in any period of time and in any plane I would like to see what humanity is like in 1000 years!

When I joined the team at Axis Mason it was clear I’d joined a young, dynamic and experienced practice where I instantly fitted in. We are more of a family than five separate studios. Along with being passionate about people, architecture, interiors, property and the built environment, I came to realise early on in my career the importance of communication and building relationships. People and the human mind fascinate me and studying NLP enabled me to really appreciate this! Born in South Africa, my idea of the perfect holiday is lying on a beach with a cocktail in hand although I’m also an ardent appreciator of white powdery slopes! I do yoga to relax, with daily headstands helping to keep me grounded and puts life in perspective. Woods walking with my dog, entertaining and spending time with my family is the next best thing.

I see myself as a versatile individual with a love for learning, the more I know the better. When it comes to architecture, I approach design in a comprehensive manner, as I feel everything is interconnected in some way or another. After some time away to complete my Part 2, it's been great returning to the AMD studio. The work I do here is challenging and rewarding, and there's plenty of opportunities for learning with the range of projects and projects stages I get to work on. Something that really inspires me is the intersection between architecture and other forms of media, like film and art. On weekends I'm usually catching up on time with family and finding new coffee shops to explore with my husband.

I joined axis mason in 2016 and I've stuck around ever since, culminating in my qualification as a Part 2 architectural assistant in 2020, an educational development the team has always supported. A feature very few know about me is that I have the same wingspan as the majestic swan…beyond that I'm still working on the flying part. What I appreciate most about the role is the variety, creativity and knowledge that each day offers. It's the sort of role that's constantly evolving and always eventful. Away from the office, I enjoy exploring the historical hotspots of the UK and beyond, experiencing the cultural shifts it provides and drawing on them as a source of inspiration. If I could be in any place, it would be Italy during the renaissance, a great time for the evolution of design; I also reckon it's highly likely that me and Michelangelo would've got on swimmingly.

I used to do cross country many years ago, although I haven't dare to try again recently. When it comes to my job, I enjoy that every day is different and presents new opportunities for learning.
