BRIGHTLANDS PLANNED WORKS
The planned works on Brightlands encompass three main aspects: the conversion of the former Brightlands boarding house, a proposed new development to the northern part of the site, and an associated landscape scheme.
For the conversion of the existing Grade II listed boarding house, the proposals have been developed with a keen understanding of its historical significance. The design parameters and conservation principles adopted for this project focus on preserving the appearance and architectural details that contribute to the heritage value of the building. Alterations are to be minimized, and the layout and proportions of principal rooms should be retained or restored to their original dimensions where possible.
The primary goal for the new housing is to harmonise with the existing Grade II listed boarding house and its surroundings. The proposal combines a contemporary design approach while respecting the architectural proportions of the boarding house and bothie fenestration. The materials for the new houses draw inspiration from the boarding house, featuring flemish bond brickwork, stone detailing, and slate roofs.
The proposal aims to blend modern design with the historical significance of the site. Through careful consideration of the context, materials, and architectural features, the proposals seek to enhance the area while preserving the heritage value of the Grade II listed boarding house. The development aspires to offer comfortable and sustainable housing that complements the existing structures and the local surroundings.
