PLAT DOUET RESIDENTIAL AND DEMENTIA CARE VILLAGE
Located in St. Saviour, Jersey, Plat Douet is one of our latest Living For All projects. The holistic redevelopment of this brownfield site will bring together new residential accommodation, a specialist Dementia Village, and an extensive landscape scheme.
The Dementia Village is a purpose-built community that aspires to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and preserve as much autonomy and daily routine as possible. The design of the development looks to imbue comfort upon the residents through the ability to lead a familiar life in a safe environment while maintaining access to 24-hour care. While the resident ‘households’ have been designed to mimic the experience an individual may have in their own home, the ‘High Street’ creates a series of retail and social spaces, including a shop, hairdressers, pub and café.
Axis Mason explored various innovative design models for dementia care, with the most influential precedent being De Hogeweyk, Netherlands. Plat Douet Dementia Village has been developed in conjunction with the Design Audit Tool created by DSDC at Stirling University, with the aspiration of achieving a ‘gold standard’ in dementia design.
