The proposed development consists of a cluster of twenty-four linked houses and one detached ‘gate house’ located within the parish of St. Peter.

The rural setting and vast amounts of open green space which surround the site have informed the layout and character of the scheme. The design proposal aims to set out a framework of controlled semi public and private spaces for families that take advantage of the excellent views the site provides.

The existing character of St. Peter provides an important precedent for the development of the Broadlands project. It is important for the proposed scheme to relate directly to the surrounding environment in order to allow the project to sit effortlessly within its context.

The concept of the farm steading informs the layout, scale, materiality and detailing of the proposed development all of which relates directly to this vernacular style, allowing the project to sit effortlessly within its surrounding context. A traditional material pallet includes the use of random granite stone walls, granite quoins and lintels, and ‘natural red’ pan tile roofs. Traditional rendered dwellings finished with granite or render detailing and slate roofs are also present.
