It's been great returning to the AMD studio after completing my Part 2. The work I do here is challenging and rewarding, with plenty of opportunities for learning at different projects stages. Something that really inspires me is the intersection between architecture and other forms of media, like film, animation and art. On weekends I'm usually catching up on time with family and finding new coffee shops to explore with my husband.

I see myself as a versatile individual with a love for learning, the more I know the better. When it comes to architecture, I approach design in a comprehensive manner, as I feel everything is interconnected in some way or another. Joining the diverse and accomplished Axis Mason team, as a Part I, is an opportunity I never expected but always dreamt of. On my weekends, you will usually find me cracking a few “bezzas” with the boys while watching the footy in the comfort of my Liverpool jersey. I thoroughly enjoy spending my time outdoors, travelling, hiking and documenting it all through photography.

I am an adventurous person who is always up for a new challenge, be it white water rafting, ziplining through forest canopies or skydiving. I feel very privileged to be part of such a diverse team of individuals who collectively are working towards making the built environment a more enjoyable space for ourselves and those around us. I am looking forward to getting submerged into the culture of what Axis Mason is all about. I am inspired by simple but beautiful things, be it in architecture or nature, and love to figure out how things work. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, baking, sewing, and playing hockey.

Joining Axis Mason felt like finding my place in a dynamic and close-knit team. We're more family than separate studios. Early in my career, I realized the importance of communication and relationships in architecture. Studying NLP deepened my fascination with people and the mind. Originally from South Africa, I love beach vacations with a cocktail but also appreciate snowy slopes. Yoga and daily headstands keep me grounded, while walks in the woods and quality family time are my cherished pursuits.

I joined Axis Mason in 2016 and I've stuck around ever since, culminating in my progression to architect in 2023. What I appreciate most about the role is the variety, creativity and exploration that each day offers. It's the sort of role that's constantly evolving and always eventful. Away from the office, I enjoy exploring the historical hotspots of the UK and beyond, experiencing the cultural shifts it provides and drawing on them as a source of inspiration.

Hello, I'm Natalie. In my mind, it is the responsibility of architects to promote social responsibility and unite individuals through design. I feel most like myself when I'm climbing mountains or by the sea. Aside from architecture, I enjoy travelling to different locations and engaging with the people who inhabit them. I appreciate working for a practice that prioritizes the people it employs, and I think our work demonstrates this accomplishment. To effectively oversee spatial interventions in the future, I'm continuously challenging myself to broaden my skill set.

The possibility of creating spaces to enrich a human’s experience through architecture inspires me and I am excited to be part of the Axis Mason team that allow these opportunities to manifest. I’m otherwise kept busy jolling with my beautiful family, beaching, riding, walking, seeing – fully doing & loving life with them. In my ’me’ time, I like to smash a ball around a squash court (and of course a few coldies after).

I enjoy having the opportunity to learn from being exposed to the variety of building projects Axis Mason tackles. I get to try a little bit of many projects and it has, and will continue to, push my understanding of buildings, space and people. The opportunity to create something for people, with which they interact so entirely- it's a huge responsibility and a great source of inspiration. In my spare time I'm usually working on my side hustle, hiking around Durban or skating along the beachfront. If I could be in any place and in any period of time it would definitely be sometime in the future! I've always been curious about what the futuristic East Africa would look like.

I’ve been an architect since 2011 and love the profession more with each project. My favourite part of the job is the variety and constant challenges, as well as working closely with our clients. It still seems like yesterday that I packed my bags and headed off to join a small practice on a tiny Island in the English Channel - almost 20 years later and our team has grown to become 5 studios, working together and delivering projects across the UK, Europe and Africa. It feels like success and success is a great motivator; what motivates me more though is helping other people to succeed; our clients, the people we make places for and more importantly, the amazing team we have at Axis Mason. When I’m not thinking about building stuff for other people, you’ll find me building my very own low-tech, micro-city on a campsite somewhere or panicking at the top of mountain when I realise my ski technique looks much better in my head!

As I near the end of my second decade at Axis Mason my ambition, being part of a young dynamic leadership team, is to make a significant contribution towards cultivating a happy & healthy workplace by strengthening our unified goal of enriching people’s lives through the work we do. Among other things, I believe that a good work-life balance is a key ingredient to happiness, and addressing core values like these in the workplace can empower us as a company. When I’m not working you can quite often find me in my surfski 2km offshore in windy conditions chasing ocean swell; a special place where a real appreciation of perspective is embraced.

I enjoy the sense of team across our studios, and it’s exciting to see how we will continue to evolve in the coming years. Outside work, you can often find me in old jeans with a tool-belt around my waist putting the finishing touches to the long-time refurbishment of my home. I now enjoy spending more of my newfound spare time relaxing with my wife and two kids, either outdoors or chilling in our new space. When I’m not out running or cycling, I enjoy reading about the latest tech-innovation, either architectural or the latest cycling gear. Coming from Dutch roots, one of my (pipe)dreams, is to introduce some speed skating prowess to the UK by championing an idea for the first 400m long track speed skating rink in the UK, ideally near Glasgow.

I remember a conversation with one of my friends at school over 30 years ago about our respective aspirational careers, his first choice was to be an architect and second, an airline pilot, mine was the other way around. He’s now a pilot for British Airways and I’m an Architect!! Very pleased it turned out like that after 29 years and counting in the architectural profession. Outside of work I’m at my happiest either on or near water, preferably any sea, but also enjoy clocking up the miles on the bike or on foot with Chas & Dave (our two Doberman’s) - convenient that they also enjoy spending time relaxing in the pub(s)!!

I am Vesna and I have been with Axis Mason Jersey Studio for four years. When I was very little, I wanted to be a doctor (but was quickly discouraged by the sight of medical books). It’s all in the detail.
