  • Client : FCJ Primary School
  • Project Status : Completed

The FCJ Primary School refurbishment will maximise the usable space available to the school by the careful reconfiguration of redundant and underutilised spaces, and will minimise the expansion of the building’s footprint, retain the external play areas, and avoid unnecessary disruption for surrounding neighbours.

The development will provide a new pre-school facility with a new secure outdoor play area which will accommodate up to 40 young islanders, a new assembly hall to replace the existing undersized and leaking hall, and a new dedicated music and performance space and additional classroom.

The landscape team worked with specialist play equipment provider Rhino Play to develop the design for the new play area; colourful, bound rubberised surfacing, timber play equipment, and a tensile canopy provide an engaging space for the children to thrive, and enable play outdoors.

The green spaces around the School will be preserved whilst improved pedestrian access will be established from Deloraine Road. Enhancement works to the school’s entrance area will be undertaken including a glazed canopy to the nursery, new entrance doors and screens, and the visual improvement of the façade including signage and lighting to improve the approach and legibility of the School’s principle entrance for pupils and visitors.
