Frances House illustrates the opportunity for ADAPTIVE RE-USE of ageing office stock, transforming space that is no longer fit for purpose into a vibrant, contemporary workspace.
What was an uninspired, dated, unlettable office is now one of St. Peter Port’s most desirable workplaces. The use of a contemporary palette of colours, textures and materials has transformed the interior space and new glazed entrances, high-quality granite paving, and stonework and render repairs have enhanced the building’s street presence.
A key feature of the internal aesthetic concept was to strip the space back, removing the traditional suspended ceilings, dark timber doors and tired cream wallpaper. The space is now defined by bright and airy open ceilings, exposed surfaces, slatted timber, marble panelling and herringbone flooring, creating a dynamic, visually stimulating environment.
Occupier well-being also features prominently in the refurbishment with the introduction of showers, lockers and a secure bicycle storage facility. On the upper floors, external ‘green terraces’ have been created, providing occupiers with valuable breakout space for social and client events.
