The design responds to the client’s aspirations of delivering a fresh, urban aesthetic to appeal to the intended user group. It employs strong graphics referenced through simple materials being set out in a dynamic way.

The colour palette is restrained, with the occasional use of strong colour deliberately applied. The key feature is a continuous corrugated steel graffiti wall which separates the workshop and cellular spaces from the communal workshop space (for building and testing IoT devices) on the first floor. Glazed openings are framed and punched through the corrugated wall giving views and connections to the separate spaces. One of these cellular spaces houses a huge data platform wall for analysing large data sets collected from IoT sensors around Jersey.

The flooring was specified as an anti-static smooth vinyl, to enable the testing of robotic devices. The ground floor breakout and mini presentation space is shared with Jersey Telecom who retain the remainder of the ground floor for their own use.

Tony Moretta, Digital Jersey CEO, said: “The launch of the Digital Jersey Xchange marks the next phase in our work to position Jersey as a digital pioneer. Word is spreading globally about our attractiveness as a testbed for innovation. Having a physical space where that ground-breaking work can flourish only enhances our reputation and helps us speed up that work.’
