The new building will act as a gatehouse to the main property.  Benefitting from an open outlook to the east and south, the existing tennis court site also offers a cleaner visual and physical connection to the main house whilst enhancing its setting.

The property consists of two bedrooms, kitchen, dining and lounge space which are separated with a sculptural staircase that rises to the lounge area at roof level.  The upper level contains space for working as well as relaxation, taking in the panoramic views.  Large roof and ground level terraces will provide extensive external social areas.

The development is designed to celebrate and modernise the character of its setting.  The modest geometry of the building is emphasised through a rustic approach to the building cladding on the western edge where a stone clad wall will create a protective enclosure for the house.  In contrast, the dark timber cladding, interrupted with large areas of floor to ceiling glass, allows the building to merge into the shadows of the trees when viewed from a distance as well as reflect the trees and sky whilst maximising the views out to the south and east.

The proposed material palette is limited but natural and tactile ensuring the quality of detailing will be crafted together to maximise its potential to create a simple but elegant built proposal.
