Set against the backdrop of St Peter Port, Guernsey, this ADAPTIVE RE-USE project for Butterfield Bank provides a curated new office environment designed to elevate the way people work and interact.
Bringing together teams previously based across multiple sites, the new flagship workplace unifies staff in a single building. The layout features open-plan workspaces, private meeting rooms, collaboration zones, and breakout areas. A new client-facing mortgage suite forms part of the scheme, defined by its striking black-and-white checkered flooring – a distinctive feature associated with Butterfield Bank buildings. This balance of environments supports both concentration and teamwork, giving staff the flexibility to choose how and where they work. Communal areas are positioned to encourage interaction and social connection, while formal meeting spaces are designed with comfort, clarity, and efficiency in mind.
A neutral colour palette runs consistently throughout, complemented by accents of blue – reflecting Butterfield’s corporate identity – and touches of green introduced through furniture and planting. Material selections were guided by durability, warmth, and texture, with timber finishes, carpet tiles, and furniture contributing to a calm, professional atmosphere. Statement pendant lighting and acoustic ceiling treatments provide both character and functionality.
Large windows flood the interiors with natural light, celebrating sweeping views of the harbour and the sea beyond, reinforcing a strong connection to place. The result is a modern, efficient, and uplifting workplace that embodies Butterfield’s values and provides an inspiring environment for employees and clients.
