Hameau de la Mer is a mixed-tenure LATER LIVING development located on a former glass house site in the eastern part of Jersey, close to St Clements Bay. 54 new homes are arranged around a series of informal landscaped streets and courtyards.

Buildings are designed in a familiar, local, pitched-roof vernacular and employ locally relevant materials including render and granite façades, raised render quoins and lintels, traditional Jersey verge details, lead dormers, and natural slate and red pantile roofs to create a distinctive, CONTEXTUAL response to the semi-rural setting.

The extensive landscape and mature planting are a key feature of the development. Parking is restricted to discreet courtyards, giving priority to pedestrians and maximising the opportunity for planted streets and edges and a small square containing an ornamental pond, gazebo and pétanque court bordered by seating acts as a focal point for community activity.

Ornamental trees, shrubs and herbaceous borders provide striking, seasonal interest and a variety of pollinator-friendly flowering species attract birdlife and bats, maximising the ecological value of the site. This HOLISTIC approach has resulted in a unique later living community with a distinct SENSE OF PLACE and character.
