The House by the Lake in Northern Poland has been designed to take advantage of it’s spectacular lakeside location, with it’s expansive skyline and panoramic views of the surrounding forest and natural landscape.
Conceived as a sleek, low-lying pavilion, drawing from the early 20th century European modernist tradition, the house is contained in a single storey volume set over a large, partially covered external deck. This volume is split into a more enclosed area to the rear containing the main entrance and utility, master bedroom suite, two children’s bedrooms and a house bathroom.
A wide stepped foyer leads down into an open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen area fronting the lake with large, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass walls that emphasise the scale and drama of the space and the expansive landscape beyond.
Externally, grey rendered walls and rich timber infill panels and decking offer a restrained, palette against the backdrop of the lake and the surrounding forest. The timber extends internally as the primary material for the ceiling and kitchen fixtures to create a seamless blend of inside and outside.
White marble flooring is set in contrast to a dark grey marble feature wall and kitchen island, a suspended wood burner and carefully selected furniture pieces to create a sense of understated, calm and focus attention outwards to the lake and the serene landscape beyond.
