The initial phase of the Mount Richmore development provided 38 new houses and apartments as part of a wider master plan that will deliver over 400 residential units. The masterplan also includes a retail mall, a new school and a wide range of supporting amenities and resident’s facilities as part of a SUSTAINABLE, integrated new community in Durban North.
The defining design principle that informed the scheme was to create a fresh architectural language that stood out from the many gated residential estates in the area. This was achieved through a combination of clean lines, simple forms, natural materials and a clearly recognisable roof design, which worked in harmony to create a distinctive sense of place and character.
Internally, units feature high-level glazing within the open, mono-pitch roof areas and large format sliding patio doors which blur the distinction between internal and external space, extending living spaces out into the surrounding landscape. Hardwood pergolas and internal/external chimneys continue the theme if indoor/outdoor living within a wider, integrated landscape setting.
