The redevelopment of the former Old Court House Hotel site on the edge of the historic Gorey Village, provides a mix of terraced family houses and deluxe apartments with views across Grouville Common to the Bay, in an integrated, SUSTAINABLE extension of the existing village settlement.
The former hotel buildings had been developed in a piecemeal fashion over several years and added little to the character and identity of the village. The proposal was therefore to replace the buildings fronting Old Road with a highly CONTEXTUAL, traditional terrace that follows the irregular line of the street and extends the familiar, domestic form and character of the village streetscape.
Behind this, across a garden courtyard, the apartment building takes advantage of its location and outlook with large glazed gables and balconies orientated towards the bay. Familiar pitched roof forms and engineered stone cladding echo the form and materiality of the surrounding neighbourhood, building on the sense of place and reinforcing the character and identity of the Gorey Village.
