Plat Douet Dementia Care Village is an innovative mixed-use development that will provide specialist care for those living with dementia alongside new homes for the local community.
This major REGENERATION project will transform a redundant warehouse site into a transformative, modern care facility featuring 120 beds in a range of independent living units, or ‘households’, alongside specialist nursing care and a resident’s ‘high street’ with café, shop, bar and salon. Externally, an enclosed courtyard garden, private patios and roof terraces will enable resident’s to connect with the outdoors, extending their independence and their experience of normal, everyday life.
Designed to provide a rich, varied and comfortable quality of life, the project has been strongly influenced by the principles of De Hogeweyk Dementia Village in the Netherlands which prioritises adaptable, inclusive, and humanistic care, facilitating normality, wellbeing and independence.
The development will also include 66 one and two bedroom apartments to create an integrated, non-institutional environment that will support LATER LIVING and elderly care within a vibrant, mixed community and make a positive contribution to the character and vitality of the wider neighbourhood.
The project will be constructed using a mix of cavity masonry and light gauge steel frame and will take a ‘Fabric First’ approach to the building envelope. Together with on-site renewable energy generation from a PV array and highly efficient building services this will achieve a 20% reduction over the target building energy use and ensure a highly SUSTAINABLE re-use of this brownfield site.
