Seymour House is located in a spectacular countryside location close to Jersey’s eastern coastline. Set above Gorey Village and the historic Mont Orgueil Castle, the property also benefits from distant views towards the western coastline of Normandy.
This new 6 bedroom family home draws directly on the form and language of Jersey’s traditional Cod House architecture, with its formal entrance portico, five bay window pattern, slate covered pitched roof with dormers and chimney stacks and single storey, symmetrical ‘dower’ wings.
External walls are finished with a traditional, self-coloured lime render, with off-white painted portico, windows, cornice and detailing to create an elegant and understated classical exterior. The adjacent garage and workshop building have been constructed using locally sourced Jersey granite, reinforcing the CONTEXTUAL relevance of the development as a reinterpretation of the traditional Jersey farmstead. Elegant, classically inspired detailing continues throughout the interior and includes a spectacular traditional stone cantilevered stair beneath a fibrous plaster dome and glazed lantern light.
Surrounding landscaped gardens unite the new house and outbuilding with the existing Listed cottages and coach house. Steps below the main terrace to the north lead to a small, level lawn framed by formal planting beds, positioned to enjoy the coastal views, and a small orchard in the southern garden, with trees in longer grass underplanted with spring bulbs and native wildflowers, provides privacy from the main road.
