Fallu Farm is a development of 24 linked terraced houses providing 2 and 3 bedroom single family homes. The form and massing of the scheme are derived from the rural farmstead typology that is typical of the area, with houses clustered around an informal, semi-enclosed, car-free courtyard that provides a safe, protected space for the community to meet and for children to play.
Materiality and detailing relate closely to the surrounding rural vernacular with the use of render and random granite stone walls, granite quoins and lintels, and natural slate or red pantile roofs, interspersed with 2 storey timber-clad recesses that recall typical barn or coach house openings, to create a distinct, CONTEXTUAL response to the rural setting.
Landscape also plays a key role in defining the character and quality of the development, adding to the distinctive SENSE OF PLACE. The central courtyard contained on 3 sides by buildings and an informal, planted edge to the north affording expansive views to the countryside beyond, provides a green ‘lung’ at the heart of the scheme, with private gardens located behind the terraces and shared parking courtyards beyond, screened with countryside banques and hedges to create an informal farmstead character that sits effortlessly within its setting.
